The Secretariat has developed two basic training toolkits on durable solutions for displacement affected communities in the region, targeting both practitioners and policy/ decision makers.
A Steering Committee composed of IGAD, the World Bank, UNHCR, Humanitarian Donor Group- Somalia, IRC, DRC, NRC, Save the children, InterAid Uganda and Refugee Consortium of Kenya was put in place to guide the process and to ensure that the materials developed would be of use and relevant for the targeted audiences. Two pilot trainings took place mid-June in Nairobi, for technical staff and policy-makers/ donors to be trained on the package and to provide critical feedback in order to improve them. Both trainings have then been updated.
Technical training package: the objective of this training is to strengthen the capacity of humanitarian and development program staff on how to address durable solutions for displacement affected communities. Click here to see the different modules. The training has already been rolled out the in Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Uganda and at regional level in 2016.
Policy/decision-makers package: the objective of this training is to improve the knowledge and understanding of policy makers and donors on how to better address durable solutions in the region through enabling policies and long term funding. The policy makers training packages is currently being updated and will then be adapted and piloted by partners in different countries in the region.
